Abstract
This work examines key moments of biographies and professional activities of prominent women who have made a significant contribution to the development and popularization of the gemstone business industry due to their ability to combine innovation, aesthetic approach and strategic thinking. Highlighting successful examples of self-realization in the gemstone industry serves as inspiration for young people, motivating them to act and develop in this promising industry in Ukraine and beyond. The main areas covered in the paper are gemmological education, jewelry design, PR (marketing and journalism), direct involvement in gemstone cutting and jewelry creation. In addition, examples of women jewelry business owners, owners of mineral collections, and gemstone organizations that focus specifically on supporting women are provided. The examples of successful careers of women in this field are related to various types of gemstones – from jade (Mimi Ou Young) and diamonds, including synthetic ones (Julia Griffith, Julia Kusher), to pearls (Hisano Shepard) and internationally awarded works in the carving technique (Meg Berry, Naomi Sarna), and of course, unique collections of collectible minerals, including precious stones (Erika Pohl-Stroher). The focus is on women as leaders in all of these gemstone-related industries. Each example is presented in a case study format from a particular industry, providing a holistic picture of the growing leadership of women in gemstones. The practical significance of the work lies in the motivation to overcome social and professional barriers, to realize their own potential. The study popularizes among young people professions related to the gemstone industry and gemmology as a direction in the sciences of the planet Earth, and also develops an understanding of the importance of gender equality in specific areas of business, contributes to overcoming stereotypes and prejudices.
Keywords: women, leaders, gems, gemology, jewelry, education, science, business.
